My Story

Hello, I’m Nikki Lee — floral designer and proud founder of Farewell Flower Hire.

I like to call myself an Alternative Florist, because I work exclusively with artificial flowers and foliage—creating meaningful tributes that last.

After experiencing firsthand, the emotional and financial strain of arranging a funeral, I knew there had to be a better way. The cost of fresh flowers was overwhelming, and learning about the environmental harm caused by floral foam and cut flowers made me determined to find a more sustainable solution.

When I lost my job at the Port Talbot steelworks, I finally had the chance to bring that idea to life. I’ve always been creative, but I never imagined I’d one day turn my passion for art and design into a business that helps others through their hardest moments.

Losing my job gave me the opportunity to try my idea—and when the advisers at Business Wales and the Tata Transition Fund believed in me and were prepared to back my vision, it gave me the confidence to move forward. My 3D tributes are unique. Hiring out artificial funeral flowers, designed to replicate the high-end fresh casket sprays costing £500, isn’t being done anywhere else.

My journey truly began when my mam passed away in 2019. Wanting to honour her memory in a special way, I crafted my first 3D tribute—a teddy bear made from recycled plastic bottles instead of toxic floral foam. That creation sparked the beginning of Farewell Flower Hire and my mission to combine beauty, sustainability, and affordability in funeral floristry.

With support from Business Wales, Prime Cymru, and the Tata Transition Fund, I built the confidence to grow my small business from the ground up. Today, I’m honoured to create eco-friendly tributes that allow families to say goodbye with grace, beauty, and love—without the heavy cost or environmental impact of traditional flowers.

Every arrangement is made with care, compassion, and respect, designed to offer comfort and celebrate life. Being trusted to design flowers for a loved one’s final farewell is a responsibility I hold close to my heart.
